Built Environment Energy

Part of our four core service areas. Combining rigorous technical expertise with practical, commercially grounded delivery.

Energy Efficiency, Renewables & Storage in the Built Environment

We provide energy audits, technoeconomic feasibility studies and decarbonisation strategies for a range of technologies to lower the costs and carbon footprint of businesses, local authorities and housing providers. Our built environment energy team combines engineering rigour with practical knowledge of funding routes and procurement frameworks.

Energy Audits

We conduct site energy audits to ISO 50001 and ESOS standards, identifying energy consumption patterns, sources of waste, and prioritised opportunities for reduction. Our audits combine metered data analysis with on-site survey and deliver a clear, costed action plan with payback periods and carbon reduction quantification.

Technoeconomic Feasibility Studies

Before committing to capital investment in low-carbon technology, clients need a clear, evidence-based assessment of technical feasibility, costs, revenues and risks. We prepare technoeconomic feasibility studies for a wide range of technologies including solar PV, battery storage, heat pumps, biomass, LED lighting, building fabric improvement and on-site renewable generation, covering capital costs, operating costs, revenue streams, payback periods and net present value.

Microgrid & Local Energy System Design

For sites with complex energy needs — industrial estates, housing developments, leisure facilities, community assets — a microgrid approach can deliver significant cost and carbon savings by integrating generation, storage and flexible demand. We have designed and delivered microgrid feasibility and implementation strategies for a number of UK local authorities and developers, including the Dormanstown Microgrid programme in Teesside.

SME Energy Support

Our team has experience supporting SMEs to reduce their energy costs and carbon footprint through funded programmes. Our SME engagement model combines diagnostic assessments, technology recommendations, procurement support and grant application assistance.
