CPP delivers specialist technical training to developers, electrical contractors, asset owners, local authorities and industry professionals. Our courses are designed and delivered by active practitioners — people who prepare G99 and G100 applications, manage grid connections and develop renewable energy projects as their day job. This means the training reflects current practice, current DNO requirements and current pitfalls, not textbook theory.
G99 Grid Connection Training
G99 is the Engineering Recommendation that governs the connection of generating units above 16A per phase to the UK distribution network. It replaced the previous G59 standard and introduced significantly more demanding technical and process requirements for solar PV, BESS, wind and other generation technologies.
Our G99 training course covers the full process from initial enquiry through to final acceptance and energisation. It is suitable for 10 to 20 delegates and can be delivered at your premises, at a venue of your choice, or online via video conference.
Course content — G99
- History of generation connection — from G59 to G99 and why the standard changed
- Overview of the UK distribution network — how DNOs and DSOs operate and how they differ from NESO (formerly National Grid ESO)
- When G99 applies — thresholds, exemptions and when G98 or G100 may be more appropriate
- The Standard Application Form (SAF) — what is required, how to complete it correctly, and common mistakes that cause rejection
- ENA Queue Entry Requirements — the significantly strengthened requirements introduced from Recently, including Letter of Authority, Heads of Terms, site layout plans, engineering design plans, single line diagrams and preliminary project timelines
- The connection offer process — feasibility, formal offer, acceptance and the connection agreement
- Gate 2 requirements — what developers must demonstrate to retain their queue position, including site control, planning status and financial commitment
- Protection requirements — the technical protection settings required for G99 compliance, including under/over voltage, under/over frequency, rate of change of frequency (RoCoF) and loss of mains protection
- Metering requirements — export metering, import metering and the DNO metering specification
- Power quality — harmonic limits, voltage flicker and power factor requirements
- The commissioning process — what is required before energisation, including the commissioning engineer, witness testing and the commissioning report
- DNO negotiations — what to expect, what is negotiable and how to manage the process effectively
- NESO and DSO — understanding the difference, how they interact, and how capacity constraints at DSO level affect the queue
- Live worked examples — completing a real SAF section by section using actual project examples

G100 Grid Connection Training
G100 is the Engineering Recommendation that governs the connection of energy storage systems and generation with export limitation to the UK distribution network. It is increasingly relevant as standalone BESS, co-located solar and BESS, and export-limited rooftop solar all require G100 compliance.
Our G100 training covers the specific requirements that distinguish G100 from G99, the export limiting arrangements, and the metering and protection requirements unique to storage and export-limited installations.

- Export limitation arrangements — how export limiting works technically, what the DNO requires and how it is set up and maintained
- Energy storage — specific requirements for batteries, including charging and discharging modes and the interaction with DNO metering

- The G100 application process — differences from G99 and what additional documentation is required

- Commissioning a G100 installation — the specific commissioning requirements and acceptance process
Combined G99 and G100 Course

- Hybrid — presenter on-site with remote delegates joining online
Courses are typically full-day (6 hours of content plus breaks) though half-day formats are available for focused topics. All delegates receive a course summary document and access to the slide deck after the session.
